Aromatic Herb Gardens
Most aromatic herbs are easy to maintain and can help ward away common garden pests. Herbs are also fairly hardy and will flourish even in less than optimal conditions. When planning your aromatic herb garden you should consider what kind of space and lighting you will have available before choosing the plants. They can be planted alongside an existing garden, added to their own space or grown in containers indoors if space is short in supply. It is important to note that some herbs are perennial while others are not.
Lavender is one of the staples to many aromatic herb gardens. Its soft fragrance is used in many products to create a soothing atmosphere. The 
flowers it offers can be dried and used in a number of ways including potpourri, teas and dried floral arrangements. Mint plants make a nice counterpart to lavender, and come in a wide range of fragrances. One of the more popular varieties of mint is peppermint, known for its cooling properties while spearmint offers a more subtle fragrance.
Other good options for an aromatic herb garden are some of the culinary herbs such as rosemary and basil. They offer a very low maintenance show of foliage and gentle fragrance while still being useful in the kitchen. The herbs can be picked and used fresh in recipes or dried for later use.
Try planting several types of herbs and experiment with some of the lesser known varieties to create your own aromatic garden. With a little planning and care your garden will flourish and be very enjoyable for a long time to come!
