Planning A Herb Garden
Herbs are nature's medicine cabinet. When the ancients uttered the phrase, 'Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food' they could have been talking about herbs. Herbs do so much. They can heal; add flavor to dishes, and pleasant scents to homes. Herbs can do much more than we realize. The intelligent thing to do is to plant an herb garden of your own.
Planning an herb garden is easy. First you should look around your yard to see what space you have. Even living an apartment does not mean you cannot have a good herb garden. It just limits the size. Once you have decided where to put your herb garden, your next step is to decide what herbs you want in it.
Sunshine is the key to your herb garden. The amount of sunshine you have will decide what herbs you can grow. Some herbs require lots of direct sun to reach their peak, while others can survive with just a few hours of direct sun. Still other herbs can thrive with no direct sunshine at all. Do some research on the internet, at your library, talk to a gardening specialist or with your parents and grandparents to find out what herbs grow best in the space you have.
Once you have selected the herbs the next step is to prepare the soil. Again some research is necessary. Many herbs can grow in almost any type of soil. For the best results, however, you should try get the best soil. Once you have chosen the place, herbs and soil you are ready to plant.
