Plants and Herbs that Rabbits won’t Eat

Rabbits can be very adorable as pets with their twitching noses and fuzzy coats. However, they are very destructive and can cause massive damage in your gardens and landscaping if they feast on your plants. Never let their cute faces fool you! These animals love to munch on a range of plants such as flowers, clovers, peas, lettuce, and even beans.

Rabbits come in different forms, colors, and sizes. The jackrabbit can be the size of a house-cat, which can grow up to twelve inches long. Its smaller cousin, however, the cottontail and brush rabbits, weigh just around two pounds. Nonetheless, all have brown to grey fur with varying tints.

Identification

Just how do you spot a rabbit infestation in your garden?

These troublesome creatures leave a clean-cut surface on plants, unlike insects and other pests that usually leave jagged edges. Check if the leaves and stems of your plants sustain clean-cut damage. If they do, it is most probable that you are under rabbit attack.

Another method of checking for any rabbit infestation is to search the ground for their calling cards. These creatures leave behind coarse, circular fecal pellets about half an inch in diameter.

Prevention

There are different ways to repel rabbits from entering your garden. The simplest solutions are constructing a chicken fence, tree wrapping, use of repellants, and even trapping. These methods are, however, laborious and are sometimes precarious. It is not advised, as well, to trap live rabbits, as these may carry diseases that may be contracted by humans.

So what are the other means that are safer and more natural?

The solution is to plant flowers and herbs that naturally repel rabbits. There are a range of plants that rabbits will not eat. These include hyacinth and daffodils.

Plants and Herbs that Rabbits won’t EatHerbs also deflect rabbits from entering your garden. It is best to use strong-smelling herbs such as mint, chives, and parsley. Surprisingly, aside from being used as garnish or spice in your dishes, these herbs have other uses as well. And one of them is to prevent or cure rabbit infestation.

If you are still wondering how to use these plants and herbs to prevent rabbits from entering your garden, I suggest that you surround your bulbs or even your entire garden with these plants. The moment they smell the scent of these plants, they will scamper along on the opposite direction and forget about ever returning.
