Growing herbs in pots or containers is no more difficult than growing herbs in an outdoor area or garden. Indoor herb gardens however do need similar growing conditions as herbs that are grown in the garden. Sunlight, soil and water are the three main ingredients that all plants need to grow successfully. Whether plants are grown indoors or in a garden, herbs are no exception. Sunlight is vital to growing any type of plant including herbs. Herbs grown in a kitchen or any other room in your home should be placed in a position where they will receive the best kind of sunlight.

Coriander is a seed and it’s leaves are known as Cilantro. Cilantro is used in Indian, Mexican dishes and even Middle Eastern dishes. If you’re growing outdoors, wait until May. It is not ideal to transplant Coriander so growing it from seed at the place where you want it to grow is best. Coriander is delicate and needs protection from the wind, but it can grow up to 2 ft! Coriander seeds should be replanted every few weeks to ensure a continuous crop throughout the season.

Watching your herb garden flourish in summer is a wonderful thing but how disappointing is it when your fresh herbs die off once the cooler weather sets in. Its at this point you realize the necessity to replace your fresh herbs with dried herbs from your local supermarket. You can certainly buy freshly cut herbs but they generally won’t last very long in your kitchen or fridge.
